Note: If you are in need of assistance, or know somebody who is, please download the Assistance Request – Resource List for a list of various community organizations who offer assistance for a wide variety of needs.
St. Malachy provides for those in the community in need of assistance. Here are some, not all, of the organizations we support:
- MATTS- Salvation Army
- HOPE
- Imago Dei
- The Baby Closet
- MCREST – Macomb County Emergency Shelter Team
- Turning Point
- Compassion Hours Transitional Shelter
- Good Shepherd Coalition
Along with these organizations, the St. Malachy community provides ongoing service:
Food Pantry
St. Malachy parishioners are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items on the first Sunday of the month that supports Sacred Heart Church’s food pantry. Also, we do a Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter food drive.
Clothing Drive
At least once per year, St. Malachy hosts a clothing drive. The clothing truck is available during the entire weekend so parishioners can drop off their donations for the Society of St. Vincent DePaul.
Giving Trees
Twice a year, trees are placed near the Baptismal Font. During Advent, “The Giving Tree” and during Lent, “The Tree of Life.” These trees are filled with small cards/ornaments suggesting small items ranging from gift cards to socks that families can purchase for those in need. The cards represent different agencies: St. Aloysius-Detroit, Catholic Social Services – Macomb, Home Visitors of Mary, Mary’s Children – Clawson, St. Malachy, Most Holy Trinity – Detroit, and Sacred Heart – Roseville.
Adopt-a-Family
During the season of Advent, St. Malachy offers the opportunity to adopt-a-family. Parishioners can “adopt” a family large or small and help to provide presents under the tree, food on the table, and most importantly smiles on the children’s faces.
