FROG is St. Malachy’s Junior High/Middle School youth group. FROG is an acronym for Fully Rely On God! This group consists of youth that are in 6th, 7th and 8th grades and who want to leap into their faith and learn while having fun! FROG is a sanctuary where it is okay for the youth to be themselves all while learning about the love that is God. Sometimes they do not even realize that they are learning! All the youth need is their own bible and rosary, which we will provide to them if they do not have their own. The reason they bring their own bible is so they can make that beautiful book their own and not be intimidated by it!
The average meeting begins with fellowship and relaxing. Consisting of food laughter, the youth share whatever topic they wish with one another. Then we do a scriptural decade of the rosary, and learn the beauty of this prayer while learning others as well! After that we talk about our ministry lesson, which consists of a two-way open dialogue where the youth answer and ask as many questions necessary to understand the topic at hand. Then it is off to do an activity before ending with praise and worship and prayer.
This is how most meetings will go, but there are also movie nights, game nights, theme nights and a variety of other nights that shake it up a bit. We also have three lock-ins a year along with other field trips and participate in monthly youth masses. FROG teaches about community service through a weekly donation to the food collection by bringing one non-perishable food item to the meeting. They host BINGO at the Arbor Inn every other Saturday throughout the year. Many FROGs also volunteer throughout the year and are involved in other ministries within the church.
FROG offers a variety of activities to the youth of the parish and their friends. So why not give FROG a try? You’ll be “hoppy” you did! If you have any questions, please contact Henri our youth ministry coordinator!
